LIGHTNING DREAMS: THE ELECTRUM AT GIBBS FARM

As a young engineering student, Alan Gibbs was fascinated by electricity. Fifty years later, as one of New Zealand’s most prolific art patrons, Gibbs shares the story of his lifelong vision for a kinetic lightning sculpture, realized by American artist Eric Orr and high-voltage engineer Greg Leyh in 1998. Today, The Electrum (for Len Lye) is viewed as an icon of the Gibbs Farm sculpture park. Founded in 1991, Gibbs Farm includes work by international artists Richard Serra, Anish Kapoor, and Andy Goldsworthy. Running time: 30 minutes.
